Politics Politics Politics

So said Comicus.

I was amused during the Paulson hearings this morning when Montana Senator Max Baucus expressed concerns about the coming trouble with entitlements and that the solution must involve true bipartisanship with everything on the table.

Everything except privatized social security, which can't work.

Ahem.

I think we could have done a lot of cool things with SS reform, changing our hideous tax system, infrastructure, alternative energy, and so on. Instead we got Iraq. Oh well.

I think.....this administration tried to make those changes. It looks like they hit the Washington Beaurocratic Wall.....as long as politicians are on the take.....and they all are....the ss and tax prob will not be solved----until the disaster hits.

Does anyone think that future changes in Social Security will be any different than those made in the 1980's? That is to say, incresed payroll taxes and a further increase in the retirement age?
Interstingly, President F.D.Roosevelt said sometime in 1936/37 that he hoped that someday the Social Security system would be run like a real insurance policy, investing in common stocks and bonds, perhaps after 40 years or so.
Still waiting.....

Its funny to me that current estimates show that ss runs out in 2041. Ironically, I'm 65 that year.

I thought the comments about Bernanke were a riot. The guy kept going on and on then changes the question mid-sentence to something about Cuba. What an absolute moron. And this is the type of person that is running the country. "With another increase, we're close to 9% prime rate and I can't think of people paying 9-10% prime rate...." Its called inflation Mr. Senator.
